We cool people. Not rooms.
A Coolzy is the perfect balance between size, cooling power and energy consumption. It is the perfect companion for a camping trip, an off-road adventure or an overlanding around the USA.
Runs on inverter (12/24v)
Ultra compact.
Low power consumption.
A Coolzy is a small, low power portable air conditioner that will run on an inverter. A Coolzy’s design is compact so that it can be effectively stowed while driving on rough terrain. It uses very little power (340w) and runs on a camping power source for hours (see video below).
How our portable A/C works
A compressor pushes refrigerant gas into a condenser heat exchanger where a fan blows air through the fins to cool the refrigerant gas so it condenses to a liquid. The liquid, still at high pressure, passes through a thin capillary tube or an expansion valve, reducing the pressure. The low pressure liquid is squirted into a second heat exchanger called the evaporator. Here the liquid evaporates into a cold gas, cooling air flowing past the tubes. The gas, now warmer, passes back to the compressor where it is compressed once again. More info.
Comparing Coolzy to other Camping Portable Air Conditioners
Camping portable air conditioners range from $999 (Zero Breeze) to $1499 (EcoFlow Wave). Unlike the Peltier coolers, they do pump lots of heat. The CoP is usually between 2.3 and 3: these are highly inefficient machines. Coolzy does not mix the cool air with the room air. Instead the cool air is carefully focused at the user’s face and upper body. Coolzy sends warm air from the back to the ceiling, just like a kitchen refrigerator or freezer.

An evaporative air conditioner (normally called an air cooler), works by evaporating water into the room. This uses very little energy BUT it also is less effective AND it needs to be filled with water regularly. Air coolers do not work in high humidity.
A compressor-driven portable air conditioner uses refrigerant to cool the air. Compressor-driven portable air conditioners are more effective at cooling and work in all environments.
A built-in air conditioner seems the luxury choice for campervans and caravans, providing you with cooling throughout the internal space.
However, you might want to think about some of the disadvantages.
With a built-in air conditioner, the one thing you cannot afford is an open window or doorway. Campervans and caravans come with minimal insulation so you won’t get the kind of cooling you might be expecting with your split aircon at home. Any opening to the outside will significantly reduce the cooling.
You sacrifice air quality because of this requirement. Carbon dioxide and volatile organic compounds seeping out of furnishings accumulate over time.
With the small camping air conditioners, you experience fresh air circulation all the time, with a great improvement in air quality. They work with the tent flap or caravan windows open because their cooling is localized. They cool people, not whole indoor spaces.
This means the mini camping ACs can be used outside in sheltered places, providing much more flexibility for you. And with Coolzy you can use it at home through the rest of the summer months.
Unless you’re confident that you will have low humidity weather on your vacation, choose a refrigerating air conditioner over a water cooler. Also the small water coolers provide very little cooling, typically only 200 BTU/hr, so they are only effective very close to you.
Power availability may dictate your choice. The Zero Breeze and Eenour models run on 12 Volt or 24 Volt power from batteries. Coolzy requires 115 Volt power from an inverter or small generator. Of course, the cooling effect is much more powerful at up to six feet from Coolzy.
The big advantage of Coolzy is that it is really useful at home after you return from your vacation. The lighter Zero Breeze and Eenour machines are really only suitable to provide some cooling relief on vacation and when you only have 12V or 24V DC power available.
Coolzy is an ideal camping air conditioner provided you have space to take it with you. Coolzy is one of the smallest portable air conditioners on the market, weighing only 15 kg (34 lbs). It is easy to pack in your campervan, car or caravan for your dream road trip.

Small air conditioners provide limited cooling. Therefore it’s important to understand this limitation and how to use these devices.
A small camping air conditioner cannot cool a whole room. A small room needs at least 10,000 BTU/hr cooling capacity because of it’s thermal mass (the walls and furniture). If you want to cool a small tent, with no insulation and loose flaps allowing air to circulate, you will need at least 12,000 BTU/hr cooling capacity which would be a big, heavy (very un-portable) air conditioner.
A large campervan, with little or no insulation, will need ~18,000 BTU/hr to cool the whole space (more in extremely hot conditions) which will need a large built-in air conditioner running off a medium size generator or mains power. Again, highly impractical and you won’t be able to remove it and use it at home.
An alternative is to focus the cool air to only cool the person (instead of the entire room). This saves energy and cost. A Coolzy uses patented focusing technology to focus a stream of cool air directly to the person as a result. the Coolzy’s focused cooling is much stronger than the Zero Breeze or EcoFlow Wave portable A/C.
A Coolzy requires 115 V power from an inverter or small generator (340 Watts). It weighs only 34 lbs and doesn’t always need to be vented. This makes it truly portable.
