How It Works

Coolzy technology has revolutionised portable air conditioners.

Say goodbye to those large, noisy portable air conditioners with thick exhaust hoses that need a technician to install for you – costing you time, money and, usually, a window.

Since Coolzy needs no water or exhaust hoses, there’s no installation or mess. This means you can be cool and comfortable wherever you are, even outside in sheltered places.

Our Australian-invented technology provides you with affordable refrigerated air conditioning, wherever you are and wherever you go.

Coolzy Cool Air Blanket

A blanket of cool air!

A Coolzy provides a blanket of cool air to the user. This image shows real world conditions of a Coolzy operating while the user sleeps in a cool breeze.

During this photoshoot, the ambient air tempurature was 33C (92F) with 80% humidity. The user on the bed enjoyed the benefit of the cool air and lay in a gentle breeze of air cooled by 10C. In fact she was so cool, she asked for a blanket.

Where does the warm air go?

The warm air generated out of the back of the machine is not noticeable while you are using Coolzy. However, it might warm the room for other people.

Our Tubo-Flo technology directs warm air precisely where you want it to go. There’s no need to attach a Tubo to a window any more.

How is this possible?

Coolzy uses compressor refrigeration, so you feel that refreshing crisp air straight away, gently blowing away all the discomfort from heat and humidity.

At the same time, it never needs recharging, never needs water or ice, and even adjusts automatically to work harder in high humidity by increasing its cooling output. Some of the condensation may go into the tray at the back of the unit. Any water in the tray is used to cool the warm heat exchanger where it evaporates.

Our units are light, portable, convenient, energy-efficient and – best of all – ready to use straight out of the box. Just plug in and go.

Best of all, Coolzy units consume so little power you will barely notice it on your electricity bill. A cool Australian solution for a warming planet.

With its high efficiency design, Coolzy uses special patented technology to focus a stream of cool air and send it towards you, keeping you comfortable.

Unlike other portable air conditioners, Coolzy focuses on cooling people, not rooms by providing a stream of cool air from the front of the unit. The by-product of this cooling is a small amount of warm air (about the same as 3 old light bulbs) that is expelled from the rear of the unit (similar to a small bar fridge). We recommend that in small spaces, this warm air must be allowed to ventilate and escape the room. This can be done by leaving a window or door open. Our optional Tubo Mini or Maxi accessories help direct warm air to a nearby door or window.

Fans, no matter how smart they may be, can still only recirculate the same warm air that’s already in the room. Coolzy adds refrigeration so you feel much cooler.

Other kinds of portable air conditioners use far more electricity or can cause extra humidity, and some need drain pipes or topping up with water or ice.

Since Coolzy creates a cool micro-climate around you, the windows and doors can remain open allowing fresh air to circulate. With split air conditioners windows and doors have to remain closed so there is no fresh air exchange. CO2 and harmful volatile organic compounds accumulate. Coolzy is a much healthier option.

Coolzy uses very little electric power, only 340 Watts, so the heat extracted from the cool air can simply be directed to the ceiling where it is absorbed. The heat released into the room is about the same as three people generate naturally. This means there is normally no need for the exhaust hose that comes with other portable air conditioners. In a small, well-insulated room, there may be some noticeable warming, though you will not notice this while you are enjoying the cool air flow. Our Tubo-Mini and Maxi accessories enable warm air to be directed to a nearby door or window, minimizing any room warming.

Other portable air conditioners with an exhaust hose use four to eight times more electricity and are extremely inefficient.

Why? Most of the cool air is sucked back into the machine, reheated, and thrown out of the room. Learn why traditional portables are so inefficient. The cool air flow is less than the amount of air sucked out of the room and exhausted through the hose.

Even worse, hot air from outside flows back into the room to make up for the air exhausted through the hose, cancelling out much of the cooling.

Governments only mandate star ratings for mass-marketed products that consume lots of energy, such as traditional air conditioners, dishwashers, washing machines and driers. Coolzy uses so little energy in comparison to traditional air conditioners that no star ratings are needed to guide consumers. The benefits are obvious.

In humid conditions, Coolzy extracts water from the cool air giving you that cool, fresh and dry feeling that comes with refrigeration air conditioning. The water evaporates, helping to cool the hot condenser pipes, and comes out with the warm air directed to the ceiling. This well-known principle increases the air conditioning efficiency so you get more cooling in humid conditions when you need it most.

In extremely humid environments, some of the water may accumulate in the cable tray at the back of Coolzy. An LED indicator will inform you when to empty the tray.

About 3000 BTU/hr in dry air and 4000 BTU/hr in high humidity.

Other portable air conditioners provide 12,000 – 24,000 BTU/hr cooling, requiring 4 – 8 times more electricity. However, most of the cooling is wasted and nearly all of the energy goes out of the window through the hot exhaust hose.

Coolzy works in any size room as it focuses cooling directly to people, rather than trying to cool the entire room.

Will a Coolzy cool the whole room?

A Coolzy is a low-powered air conditioner so it will not cool an entire room. A Coolzy is designed to be focused on a person inside a room. It is like a small fridge that blows a constant breeze of cool air at a person. For this reason it is best to provide cool air to a person sitting reading a book, watching tv or sleeping in a bed.

The energy savings come from not trying to cool the entire room. By focusing the cool air on the individual, you save electricity and money. If you do decide to use a Coozly in a small room, be sure to read our page on Small Room Ventilation.

An optional Tubo directs warm air exactly where you want it to go. Both have Tubo-Flo technology (patent pending) that focuses the warm air jet to minimize mixing with room air.

Tubo-Flo technology avoids the need to attach the pipe to a window. Instead you can just aim the warm air flow in the right direction.
