A Coolzy directs its warm air exhaust to the ceiling where the heat is absorbed, just like the warmth from your fridge (warm air rises naturally). Any excess finds its way out of open windows or doors.

In most situations, Coolzy needs no exhaust pipe. Coolzy uses so little electricity that it does not need one. A Coolzy releases only 340 Watts, similar to three people in the room, causing warming which normally is barely perceptible.

In a small room, especially if it is well-insulated, Coolzy will create some warming in the upper part of the room.

Learn how to provide extra ventilation for a small room.

A Coolzy works in any room, even outside in sheltered places. It creates a micro-climate, a cool zone, up to 4-5 square metres.

If the temperature inside your bedroom regularly exceeds 28°C at night, the Igloo tent provides extra cooling to keep you comfortable, and also provides chemical-free mosquito protection. The Igloo tent also reduces the air conditioner power consumption to about 180 Watts average, a valuable saving for off-grid battery installations. The Igloo tent also provides an ideal place for your baby or small child to be cool and comfortable during the day time.

We recommend keeping a Coolzy near you, no more than 1 or 2 metres away. If you need it further away, or want to use while you are standing, we recommend our Focus Enhancer accessory (already included with our Coolzy-Pro units) that extends the range and optionally directs the cool air flow at a higher angle.

No. A Coolzy is designed for energy-efficient cooling in summer. An electric throw rug is an extremely energy-efficient option for winter warmth.

If you need to cool a crowded room for 2 – 3 hours, a split AC is effective. Split ACs provide no fresh air exchange and the doors and windows need to be closed to retain the cool air so carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds and body odours build up with time. Prolonged use of split ACs for sleeping can cause dry itchy eyes and skin irritation from dry air and the running cost can be very high. Expect to pay $1,500 or more to install it and $120 – $250 a month for electricity if you use it for sleeping or during the day.

Here is a short video to explain.

You should remember to clean the filters every two weeks or so.

You can do this less often once you have experience of using your air conditioner and you can judge when to clean the filters for yourself.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

Symptoms: Green light is flashing, fan is running but there is no cooling, and compressor does not start.

Explanation: Thermostat setting is higher than room temperature or function is set to “ventilate” instead of “snowflake”. Below 18°C, the compressor will not start because the room is too cold and there is a risk that ice would form inside and damage your air conditioner.

Cure: Press FUNC to make the snowflake symbol appear (bottom left corner) and lower the thermostat temperature.

Symptoms: Air conditioner does not start, green light flashes 6 times, then pauses and repeats.

Explanation: Software needs a reset.

Cure: Disconnect the power – either switch off the power point, or disconnect the power lead for 5 minutes.

Avoiding the problem: When you have finished using your Coolzy AC, switch it off with the remote control before closing the warm air cover. Even better, leave the warm air cover open unless you don’t plan to use Coolzy for several days.

Symptoms: the room becomes noticeably warmer with a Coolzy running.

Explanation: the room seems to get warmer because you get used to the cool air from aCoolzy.

In a well-insulated small room with doors and windows closed, the room temperature can increase slightly, just as it would with two or three people in the room.

A Coolzy emits about the same heat as three people. However, as you become used to the cool micro-climate that a Coolzy provides for you, the other parts of the room will seem to be warmer even if there is no measurable temperature change.

Note that the warm air emerging from the rear of the AC demonstrates it is working properly.  A kitchen refrigerator creates a similar amount of warm air at the back.

Cures: keep a door or window open – this is a healthy option in any case. Unlike normal room air conditioners, a Coolzy works just as well with open doors and windows and fresh air circulating.

If you cannot keep a door open and you like the curtains fully closed to keep out the light, consider the following solution from one of our customers. She placed her air conditioner about 15 cm from the wall beneath an open window and draped the curtain over the middle so the warmer air went straight out of the window.

If you only have short curtains, elevate your air conditioner on a small table.

In a small, insulated room, consider placing Coolzy in the doorway as shown here.

Symptoms 1: The noise from the AC seems loud and some users find it annoying.

Explanation: On high fan speed, the AC noise is about 54 dB at a distance of 1 metre, about the same as an electric fan at high speed. It is much quieter at the medium and low fan speeds.

Cure: For sleeping, place the AC unit about 15 cm from the end of the bed as shown in the instruction guide. The bedding will absorb much of the noise. Run the AC on medium speed. If you need faster air flow, use the Coolzy-Pro accessory which increases the air flow speed up to three times. With the windows open, the AC needs to provide just enough noise to mask noises coming from outside to promote sound sleep.

Symptoms 2: A rushing water sound comes from the back of the AC.

Explanation: In humid weather conditions, water is condensed on the air cooling coils at the front of the machine and passes to the back side where the water is sprayed onto the warm condenser coils.

The noise is caused by the water spray.

The water enables the AC to increase the cooling power by up to 50% or more, with no increase in electricity consumption. This is what make Coolzy particularly effective in humid weather conditions.

The noise level does increase slightly.

Cure: If you really don’t want to hear the water rushing sound, you can remove the rubber bung just above the power cord storage drawer at the back of the AC.

This will reduce the cooling power in humid weather: it will not perform at the specified level.  Also, after 2 – 5 hours, the AC will switch off automatically when the drawer is full of water.  Then you need to empty out the water before using it again.  Take care not to spill the water as you remove the drawer!

Symptoms: Water leaks from air conditioner

Explanation: The air conditioner should not leak at all. However, if it is not upright, even if tilted at a slight angle, water can leak from the cold evaporator onto the floor. This can happen if the AC is placed on a chair, for example. The seat on most chairs is not flat.

Cure: Make sure the air conditioner is placed on a hard, flat, level surface.

Symptoms: Air conditioner loses its cooling effect intermittently

Explanation: Drafts and nearby fans can disrupt the cool air flow from your Coolzy AC, reducing the cooling effect for users.

Cure: Use Coolzy in a draft free location.

Symptoms: Air conditioner loses its cooling effect gradually over time

Explanation: Household dust accumulating on the three air filters can gradually reduce the air flow, reducing the apparent cooling.

Cure: We recommend you inspect at least the cool air inlet filter at the front of the AC unit every two weeks. Once there is a noticeable amount of dust, clean all three filters by rinsing them under a tap.

We also recommend that you ask an air conditioning technician to clean the inside of your AC annually, especially in very dusty locations.
